In a significant initiative, the Provincial Science and Technology Department, the Economic and Information Committee, and the Finance Department collaborated to organize a team of experts for in-depth scientific research on strategic emerging industries in Hunan Province. This effort focused on the transformation of major scientific and technological achievements, with Zoomlion playing a central role in the development of comprehensive equipment for kitchen waste recycling. The project was officially accepted after thorough evaluation by a panel of experts.
Fu Ling, Deputy Chief Engineer of Zoomlion and Dean of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Fang Guohao, Executive Deputy General Manager of the Environmental Industry Corporation, were present during the acceptance process. The expert group conducted an on-site inspection and reviewed the detailed research report submitted by the project team. Following rigorous questioning and in-depth discussions, they highly commended the project's outcomes.
The project successfully addressed four key technical challenges: pendulum-type sorting and impurity removal, large-scale two-step wet anaerobic fermentation, oil-slag separation from kitchen waste, and automated chemical processing. As a result, a complete, integrated technology system was developed — "coarse sorting + three-phase separation + fine hybrid sorting + anaerobic fermentation + emission treatment" — which is tailored for efficient kitchen waste resource utilization in China. During the project’s implementation, 29 patents were filed, one industry standard was completed, and one enterprise standard was established, leading to notable economic and social benefits.
Since 2008, Zoomlion has been dedicated to developing its own food waste recycling treatment system. Through continuous innovation and practical trials, the company has created an independent, homegrown solution that suits China’s specific conditions. This system effectively transforms kitchen waste into valuable resources, addressing the serious issue of waste returning to dining tables and ensuring food safety. Several core technologies within this system are pioneering in the domestic market, positioning Zoomlion as the most comprehensive manufacturer of complete kitchen waste collection and processing equipment in China. The equipment is now being used in cities across the country, demonstrating its effectiveness and reliability.
