Two acceptance standards for residential decoration issued by Beijing

On November 9, the "2013 Beijing Sustainable Decoration Public Welfare Activities" took place in Beijing. This event was organized by several key institutions, including the China National Institute of Standardization, the Beijing Building Decoration Association, and Fangyuan Certification Group. Together, they introduced two important local standards: the "Residential Building Decoration Quality Acceptance Code" and the "Code for Design, Construction and Acceptance of Electrical and Intelligent Systems for Decoration Engineering." These standards are now mandatory for residential decoration projects in Beijing, aiming to bring more clarity and quality control to the industry. With the rapid development of smart home technology and digital appliances, many homeowners are now asking what standards should guide their home renovation projects. Questions about wiring design, construction methods, and quality assurance have become increasingly common. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous companies take advantage of this confusion, using substandard materials or cutting corners during the process. Others may mislead consumers with misleading labels like "green building materials," which do not meet real environmental standards. Issues such as poor internal management, subcontracting, unauthorized changes, and low-quality work have led to growing dissatisfaction among customers. To address these challenges, the Beijing Building Decoration Association, a 5A-level industry organization, has been actively working on promoting sustainable development in the sector. The newly released standards were developed in collaboration with leading home improvement companies and approved by the Beijing Municipal Quality Supervision Bureau. This marks a significant step forward in ensuring transparency and quality in the industry. It is expected that these regulations will help reduce common problems faced by consumers and improve overall satisfaction. During the event, experts from the United Nations Sustainable Consumption and Production Support Center and the Swedish Environmental Science Research Institute shared insights into international practices in sustainable decoration. Additionally, the EU's Sustainable Interior Decoration Project (SUS BIRD) presented honorary certificates to 11 exemplary "China Sustainable Decoration Demonstration Projects." Among them, Lanjing Lijia became the only home furnishing company to receive this recognition for its innovative automated canopy shade system. The SUS BIRD project, funded by the European Union, aims to promote the use of eco-friendly materials, energy-saving electrical equipment, and water-saving appliances. It also encourages decoration companies to adopt environmentally responsible procedures. As a nationally recognized third-party evaluation and certification agency, Fangyuan Logo plays a key role in implementing the project. This initiative represents a positive move toward a greener and more sustainable future for the home improvement industry.
