Solid-state high-frequency welding thin-walled H-beam test

This paper presents a detailed analysis of the continuous welding process for thin-walled H-beams using two sets of solid-state high-frequency power sources with capacities of 60kW and 400kHz. The experiments were conducted using 2mm thick ordinary strip steel, employing both asymmetric and symmetric welding techniques. After thorough evaluation of the results, it was determined that the symmetric welding method is more suitable for producing high-quality welds in thin-walled H-beams.

1. Introduction

H-shaped steel consists of three main components: the upper flange, the web, and the lower flange, as illustrated in Figure 1. In this welding setup, one solid-state high-frequency power source is responsible for heating and welding the upper flange and the web, while the second unit handles the lower flange and the web. Both units operate simultaneously and continuously to ensure a seamless and efficient welding process.

The dimensions of the thin-walled H-beam are depicted in Figure 2. For the contact welding test, the contact welding head is shown in Figure 3. The contact tip is made of pure copper, measuring 20mm by 8mm, with a contact surface area of 160mm². The internal diameter of the cylinder is 30mm, giving an area of 700mm². The air compressor operates at a pressure of 2kg/cm², and the contact pressure applied to the strip is calculated as 7cm² × 2kg/cm² = 140N·m.
