"God Six Fire Service" is cheap and heat-resistant

Firefighters wearing protective gear made from a revolutionary material called "aryl sulfone" are expected to survive intense fires more effectively. According to a recent report from the Shanghai Institute of Textile Science, a key research project titled "1000 tons of aromatic sulfone industrialization research" has successfully passed its acceptance stage. This high-temperature resistant fiber, previously used in space missions like Shenzhou VI, is set to reach kiloton-scale production by 2007 and will be widely applied in firefighting gear, fire blankets, and other critical safety equipment.

Zhu Yisheng, the director of scientific research at the institute, explained that aryl sulfone is one of the most heat-resistant fibers globally, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 250 degrees Celsius without damage. In comparison, the most advanced foreign aramid materials can only endure 180 to 200 degrees Celsius. China's aryl sulfone is entirely developed with independent intellectual property rights, and its performance has been tested and confirmed during space missions such as Shenwu and Shenji.

"The next challenge is to scale up production so that this material can be used extensively in firefighting equipment," Zhu said. By early 2007, a full 1,000-ton production line will be operational. Once this is achieved, the cost of fire service suits made from aryl sulfone is expected to be under 2,000 yuan per set. Not only will this make the gear more affordable, but it will also offer superior heat resistance—capable of withstanding temperatures up to 50 degrees higher than current options.

Currently, similar fire protection suits in the U.S. cost around 5,000 yuan per set. Meanwhile, traditional heat-resistant fibers from countries like France have already shown interest in importing aryl sulfone due to its superior performance and cost-effectiveness. With the upcoming large-scale production, China is poised to lead in the development and application of advanced thermal protection materials.
