Living room tile paving notes

Tile flooring has now become a popular choice for living room decoration. With a wide variety of options available, choosing the right tiles for your living room requires some careful consideration. As one of the most frequently used spaces in your home, the living room deserves special attention when it comes to tile selection and installation.

First, consider the size of the tiles

If your living room is larger than 30 square meters, it's recommended to use large tiles such as 80x80 cm. For smaller spaces, 60x60 cm is ideal, but never go below 40x40 cm. Larger tiles can create a more open and spacious feel, while smaller ones may make the area look cramped and cluttered. Just like wearing shoes that fit well, choosing the right tile size ensures a balanced and harmonious look.

Second, think about the color scheme

To achieve a bright and airy atmosphere, light-colored tiles are typically the best choice. Options like white, light beige, or solid colors with subtle patterns work well. If you're someone who values cleanliness and elegance, solid-colored tiles are an excellent option. They exude sophistication, but they do require more frequent cleaning and maintenance. If you're busy and don’t have much time for upkeep, this might not be the best choice for you.

When it comes to materials, glass mosaic tiles are a great option because they are durable, easy to clean, and add a modern touch. Some people prefer antique-style bricks for their unique color and character, but these can be harder to clean and may appear too heavy for a residential space. Natural stone is generally not recommended for living rooms due to its high cost, limited color range, and potential radioactivity. It’s often used in commercial areas instead.

Third, avoid over-decorating the floor

Simplicity is key in modern interior design. Ornate patterns, parquet flooring, or excessive detailing are outdated trends. Instead, focus on clean lines and a smooth surface. The baseboard, which connects the walls and the floor, should be made from vitrified tiles to prevent dirt and damage. This not only enhances the appearance of the room but also makes it easier to maintain.

For the edge of the baseboard, it’s advisable to have it rounded into a quarter-circle or a 45-degree bevel. The surface should be polished for a refined finish. By following these tips, you can ensure a beautiful, functional, and long-lasting tile installation in your living room.
