Newly-recognized research on carbon-free refractory products

In recent years, Luo Nai Group has conducted applied research on the use of spinel in ironmaking, skateboarding, nozzles, and ladles, leveraging the scientific expertise of Beijing University of Science and Technology and Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. Through careful optimization of process parameters and the development of unique technological solutions, the company has achieved international standards in both production equipment and product quality. These innovations have enabled rapid commercialization of the research outcomes. Recently, over 20 experts from the Henan Provincial Planning Economy Committee, Beijing University of Science and Technology, the Henan Provincial Department of Metallurgy, and the Luoyang Refractories Research Institute participated in a detailed evaluation of spinel integration. During the meeting, refractory material specialists highlighted that spinel-bonded refractories are an ideal choice for ultra-low carbon steel and calcium-treated steel casting. The successful development of these materials marks a significant step forward in China's steel industry, supporting the production of clean steel and alloy steel. It also provides a solid material foundation and removes key obstacles in the transition of China’s refractories sector from a major steel producer to a strong steel nation. Luo Nai Group's high-strength duplex stainless steel storage tank belt (NK-41MF) is a martensitic-ferritic duplex stainless steel used as automotive filler sheet material, currently in large-scale production. It is widely used in loom parts and connector components, with an annual output of 4 million tons. The NK-42MF is another type of ferritic-martensitic duplex stainless steel designed for higher strength applications. Its main composition includes Cr: 13.00%–14.00%, Ni: 2.0%, and C: 0.09%. The NK-41MF undergoes quenching and tempering, achieving a hardness of HV300, while the NK-42MF is processed through cold rolling and heat treatment (R&T), reaching a hardness of up to HV400. Further tempering allows the NK-42MF to achieve a hardness of HV520. Although some stainless steels like 420J2 exceed HV500 in hardness and show good resistance to stress corrosion cracking, they are typically thin products with limited applications due to quality issues. In contrast, the NK-42MF is extremely thin, at 50 micrometers, and has a width of up to 600mm, offering excellent formability similar to SUS301. This makes it a highly versatile and practical solution for advanced industrial applications.
