In recent years, Dunhuang City has made significant progress in developing its stone processing and granite waste recycling industries, leveraging its rich mineral resources. This initiative has helped establish a circular economy industrial chain, with a focus on deep processing of stone materials and the effective utilization of granite waste. The city has become a key player in the domestic stone industry, showcasing sustainable development through innovation and resource efficiency.
To date, Dunhuang has established several major stone processing enterprises, including Huachuan Stone Industry, which produces 2 million square meters of granite tiles annually, and Jinhuanyu, Fujing Stone, and Shenzhou Stone Industry, each handling 1 million to 2 million square meters of stone processing per year. Additionally, large-scale projects such as rice stone processing have further boosted the city's capacity, reaching an annual output of 20 million square meters. These products are exported to regions like Sichuan, Qinghai, Xinjiang, and Lanzhou, reinforcing Dunhuang’s status as a vital stone processing hub in China.
Beyond production, the city has also prioritized environmental protection and the comprehensive use of stone waste. It has successfully launched three granite waste recycling companies, including Hongyan Industry, which repurposes granite dust into new building materials such as autoclaved aerated concrete blocks and lime sand bricks. This approach not only reduces waste but also supports the construction industry with eco-friendly alternatives. Currently, five companies are actively involved in this green initiative, demonstrating Dunhuang’s commitment to both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
