A few days ago, a dangerous incident occurred near No. 92 Shiqiao Road when multiple pieces of decorative glass fell from a vehicle, leaving a young man seriously injured. The incident has once again raised concerns about safety on construction sites. Just yesterday at 11 a.m., another similar accident took place, this time involving large glass panels in an elevator.
Master Cai, a 41-year-old worker from Henan, was on site at the Raffles project near Qianjiang Road, where he works as a glass installer. While standing on the second floor, he was preparing to install glass on a scaffold outside the building’s exterior wall. The glass was being transported using a vacuum suction cup and lifted to the upper floors. “I saw it coming,†he said later, recalling the moment the glass suddenly fell.
The glass had been lifted from the ground and was being pulled up to the third floor when it unexpectedly detached. Master Cai was directly below the falling glass, just five meters away. It struck him on the head, causing immediate bleeding from his nose, but he remained conscious.
Thankfully, Master Cai was wearing a **safety helmet**, which significantly reduced the impact. According to the doctors, the helmet prevented serious injury, though further tests are needed to check for any internal damage. “This is the first time such an accident has happened in my years of work,†said Master Li, another worker on site. He explained that suction cups are usually reliable, with a load capacity of several hundred kilograms, so workers rarely worry about them. However, this time, a 100 kg piece of glass came loose during the lift.
The incident has sparked discussions among workers about the need for stricter safety protocols. Although the outcome was fortunate, it serves as a reminder of the risks involved in construction work. All workers were shaken by the event, and the site has since been inspected for potential hazards.

Overhead Stirrer
A laboratory overhead stirrer is a device used in chemistry and biology laboratories to mix and stir liquids. It consists of a motor that drives a rotating shaft with a stirring blade or paddle attached to the end. The motor is mounted on a stand that is suspended from the ceiling, hence the name "overhead stirrer". The stirring speed can be adjusted by the user, and the device can be programmed to run for a set period of time. Overhead stirrers are commonly used in chemical synthesis, cell culture, and microbiology applications. They are particularly useful for mixing viscous liquids, suspensions, and emulsions, and for maintaining a consistent mixing speed over long periods of time.
