Recently, Tang Yongbing, a researcher at the Functional Film Research Center of the Institute of Advanced Technology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and his research team have successfully developed a new type of high-performance, low-cost sodium-type double-ion battery that is expected to replace the existing lithium ion technology and achieve Industrialization. Related research results A novel Tin-Graphite Dual-Ion Battery Based on Sodium-Ion Electrolyte with High Energy Density has been published in the international journal "Advanced Energy Materials". Lithium-ion batteries have been widely used in portable electronic devices, energy storage devices and other fields. However, as lithium-ion batteries are gradually used in smart phones, electric vehicles and other fields, the demand for lithium rapidly increases year by year, and the global reserves of lithium are very limited and unevenly distributed, causing raw material prices to rise rapidly, which seriously restricts the low cost of our country. The rapid development of high-performance energy storage devices. The sodium element has a similar physical and chemical properties to lithium, and its abundant reserves and low cost make the secondary battery system based on sodium ions receive extensive attention.

Combining the comprehensive advantages of sodium ion and double-ion battery, Tang Yongbing and his team members Sheng Maohua, Zhang Fan, Ji Bifeng and others successfully developed a new high-performance, low-cost tin-graphite double-ion battery based on sodium ion electrolyte. . The battery uses tin foil directly as the negative electrode and current collector of the battery, and graphite as the positive electrode. The electrolyte uses sodium hexafluorophosphate, which is inexpensive and readily available, as the sodium salt electrolyte dissolved in the organic solvent. The new battery has an unexpectedly higher energy density and a longer cycle life, and significantly lowers the production cost of the battery. The reaction mechanism of the new battery is: When charging, the sodium ions in the electrolyte move to the negative surface of the tin foil to form the sodium-tin alloy, and the hexafluoride phosphate is intercalated into the positive graphite; when the discharge, the sodium-tin alloy on the negative electrode de-sodium At the same time, the hexafluorophosphate in the positive graphite is deintercalated into the electrolyte. The results show that the new sodium ion double-ion battery still maintains 94% capacity after 400 cycles of charging and discharging at 2C rate, and the energy density can reach 144Wh/kg, which is higher than the energy density of existing traditional lithium-ion batteries. The research results have great industrialization prospects and are expected to replace the existing traditional lithium-ion battery technology.
