Forbes China released its "Top 100 Most Promising SMEs" list for the tenth consecutive year on January 7. Over the past decade, the rankings have seen constant changes, making the list a key reference for investors seeking high-growth opportunities. This year, three Henan-based companies made it onto the list, with Senyuan Electric securing the top position at number 21.
The latest list is dominated by mobile internet companies, with Boya Interactive, specializing in mobile network games, claiming the top spot. Dongxu Optoelectronics and Hai Cisco followed closely in second and third places. Notably, eight of the listed companies are based overseas, bringing the total to 14, reflecting the resumption of IPO activities as global markets improve. Additionally, there are 25 companies listed on the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM), highlighting the strong performance of this board last year.
Industries such as internet and mobile internet, software technology, clean energy, healthcare, electronics, consumer goods, and entertainment media lead the list, while traditional manufacturing continues to lose ground.
In terms of regional representation, Henan saw three companies on the list this year: Senyuan Electric, Tianlun Gas, and Xintian Technology, ranking 21st, 26th, and 92nd respectively. Compared to last year, Henan lost one company from the list. Senyuan Electric, which previously ranked 21st, remains in the top tier, while Xintian Technology, which has been on the list for three years, dropped to 92nd place.
Looking back over the past ten years, Henan's performance on the list has been fluctuating. In 2005, Hualan Bioengineering was the only Henan company on the list, placed at 65th. By 2006, four Henan firms appeared, but none ranked above 50th. In 2007, six Henan companies were included, with the highest being 35th. However, due to the financial crisis, only one Henan firm made the list in 2008 and 2009. The following year, four more companies returned, but in 2011, no Henan enterprises were featured. A rebound occurred in 2012, when seven Henan companies made the list.
According to Forbes China, the selection criteria focus on small and medium-sized enterprises with annual revenues between 10 million and 1 billion yuan, primarily operating in mainland China. Companies are evaluated based on growth, profitability, return on investment, and size over the past three years. Additionally, some top performers are visited in person to ensure accuracy before finalizing the list of 100 companies.
