Children's furniture is a selling point

As the "1st of June" approaches, sales of children's furniture in major furniture stores across the province have started to rise. Many parents are taking advantage of seasonal discounts to create a personalized space for their kids, aiming to build cherished memories through a more comfortable and creative environment. Home is the most important place where children grow and explore. As a result, the health, safety, environmental friendliness, and thoughtful design of children’s furniture have become key factors that parents consider when making purchases. The right furniture not only supports physical development but also encourages creativity and independence. New regulations have brought positive changes to the market. In recent years, as more parents focus on their children's living spaces, the children's furniture industry has become more active. However, the market was once plagued by unregulated practices and unfair competition, leading to confusion among consumers. To address this, the national government introduced the "New National Standard" for children's furniture in August 2012, offering a clear guideline for quality and safety. Since the implementation of the new standard last year, the children's furniture market has gradually become more regulated. During a visit to some furniture stores in Chengdu, it was observed that while children's furniture sections remain small, the variety of styles is impressive. Sales staff emphasized that their products are designed and manufactured according to the new national standards. Some older items that didn't meet the "corner" or "material" requirements have been reprocessed or recycled, giving consumers confidence in their purchases. When interviewed, several parents expressed that buying children's furniture can be a hassle, but they appreciate the introduction of regulations that help ensure product quality. However, they also voiced concerns about enforcement. One mother, Ms. Liu, said, "The existence of regulations doesn’t guarantee that companies will follow them strictly. Buying well-known brands is the safest option. It gives us peace of mind. But even then, we still worry about safety and environmental issues. If something goes wrong, we need reliable places to turn to. Besides the new standards, stronger market supervision is essential." In 2013, pine wood became one of the most popular materials for children's furniture, with many brands incorporating colorful designs to appeal to young children's tastes. The trend of "suite-style" room setups has also gained traction, simplifying the process for parents who want a cohesive look. Additionally, children's furniture now features diverse styles, including cartoon and anime elements, as well as soft European or Korean influences. Some brands even offer gender-specific themes to cater to different preferences. Studies suggest that creating a child-friendly space using professional furniture can support a child's growth. More parents are now recognizing the importance of a dedicated area for their children. Alongside innovative furniture designs, there are also household products that combine storage and decoration, making the trend of children's furniture increasingly fun and interactive. A home furnishing brand shared that many parents are too busy to spend quality time with their kids. Arranging a room together or organizing toys can be a great way for the whole family to bond. Through this process, children learn about responsibility, develop logical thinking, and build good habits—turning a simple task into a meaningful learning experience.
