Dalian Institute of Chemistry for the synthesis of non-lead double perovskite nanocrystals

Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences recently synthesized a new type of luminescent material, the non-lead double perovskite nanocrystals, and replaced the heavy metal lead with a less toxic antimony element. This new material is applied to light emitting diodes (LEDs) and solar cells, which can effectively reduce costs, increase the efficiency of use, and avoid the harm caused by heavy metal lead to the environment and humans. Lead-containing perovskite nanocrystals have the advantages of lower cost, bright light, and high purity, and are therefore widely regarded as important next-generation luminescent materials. However, lead-containing perovskite nanocrystals contain lead, a heavy metal element, which can cause harm to the environment and humans. The search for non-toxic and high-performance non-lead perovskites has become a hot spot and difficulty in the current research.

A team of Hankley researchers from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, tried to replace lead with less toxic bi-elements (Bi). In 2017, it successfully synthesized Bi-containing non-lead perovskite nanocrystals for the first time and revealed its luminescence mechanism. .

Recently, the team used the solution method to further synthesize double perovskite nanocrystals. Tests have shown that this material is a good luminescent material and has advantages in replacing lead-containing perovskite nanocrystals. Scientific researchers further proposed a new scheme to improve luminous efficiency by reducing surface defects, and will vigorously promote the research and application of non-lead perovskites.
