Introduction to common working fluids for wire electric discharge machines

Wirecut Electrical Discharge Machine (WEDM) is a category of electrical processing. It was discovered by the former Soviet Union Lazarenko that the switch contacts were damaged by spark discharge corrosion and found that the instantaneous high temperature of the spark can make local The metal is melted, oxidized, and etched away, thereby inventing and inventing the EDM process.

The working fluid has a great influence on the cutting speed, surface roughness, processing precision, etc., and must be correctly selected during processing. Commonly used working fluids mainly include emulsions and deionized water.

(1) Slow-speed wire cutting processing, deionized water is currently widely used. In order to increase the cutting speed, a conductive liquid which is advantageous for increasing the cutting speed is added during processing to increase the resistivity of the working fluid. The hardened steel is processed to have a resistivity of about 2×10 4 Ω·cm; and the resistivity of the processed cemented carbide is about 30×10 4 Ω·cm.

(2) For fast wire cutting processing, the most commonly used emulsion is emulsion. The emulsion is prepared from emulsified oil and working medium (concentration is 5% to 10%). Tap water, high purity water and magnetized water can also be used as working medium.
