Experts teach you how to fix all kinds of wallpaper problems

Although today's wallpapers are extremely durable, they are not unbreakable. When the wallpaper is damaged or flawed, it is best to repair it in time. The longer you procrastinate, the bigger you will become, and the bigger you will be, the more difficult it will be to repair. Experts teach you how to fix the wallpaper:

Repair blister

Bubbling bubbles are formed by excessive adhesive or air bubbles that accumulate between the walls and the back of the wallpaper. They may appear within minutes, days, weeks or even years after the wallpaper has been applied. The easiest way to handle blister is to prevent them from appearing at the beginning. Use a smooth brush, ruler or sponge to completely smooth the freshly pasted wallpaper strip. If you encounter bubbly, drive them to the nearest side of the wallpaper to release accumulated air or excess adhesive.

Concealed buoys do not attract attention. If you are using unfinished printing paper, the small blister can disappear automatically as the adhesive dries and the paper shrinks. However, if the bubbly does not disappear after the wallpaper has been stuck on the wall for an hour, the blister will not disappear. Follow these steps to fix the buoys that formed for one or two hours:

Step 1: Pierce the blister with a straight pin.

Step 2: Use your thumb to gently squeeze the accumulated still-wet adhesive or air and let it drain from the hole, taking care not to tear the wallpaper.

Step 3: If this doesn't work, use a single-edged razor blade or utility knife to cut a small “X” on the wallpaper and lift the end of the wallpaper.

Step 4: If there is an adhesive mass underneath, gently scrape it off. If it is caused by air, use a brush to apply a small amount of adhesive behind the wallpaper and press the wallpaper. The edges may have a little overlap, but it will be hard to find later.

Repair loose seams

Repairing loose seams is easier. Specific steps are as follows:

Step 1: Gently lift the seam and then use a brush to apply the adhesive under the seam. Press the seam down and then use the seam roller to roll on it. If you find loose seams on overlapping vinyl wallpaper, stick it with a vinyl-to-vinyl adhesive.

Step 2: If the seam shows any signs of shedding, use two or three straight pins to pass through the wallpaper and nail it to the wall until the adhesive dries. Small pin eyes are invisible.

Patch holes and tears

Repairing holes and rips in the wallpaper is more laborious, but if you do it with care, the repairs are almost invisible. Specific steps are as follows:

Step 1: Use a single-edged razor blade or utility knife to trim all broken edges along the damaged area.

Step 2: Cut a piece of wallpaper that is slightly larger than the damaged area from the wallpaper residue. Hold the patterned side of the wallpaper with one hand, then cut the round wallpaper block while rotating the wallpaper. After practicing, the pattern of the wallpaper that you cut from the wallpaper with the printed pattern side can be intact, while the reverse side is a thin edge.

Step 3: Apply a thin layer of adhesive on the back of the wallpaper and cover it with a damaged area.

Step 4: Try to align the pattern on the wallpaper with the pattern on the wallpaper. It may not be possible to perfectly align the pattern, but the degree of matching should be sufficient to make it difficult to detect.

Another technique for repairing holes is called double shearing.

Using this method, you can cut out a piece of wallpaper that is exactly the same size as the damaged area to fill it.

Step 1: Cut out a piece of square wallpaper that is 2.5 centimeters larger than the damaged area.

Step 2: Place the excess material in the hole to align the pattern with the pattern on the wall. Secure the excess with masking tape, push pins, or tools that are least likely to damage the wallpaper.

Step 3: Hold the wallpaper on the wall tightly with a metal ruler, and then cut a square wallpaper that is slightly larger than the hole with a very sharp utility knife. Cut through two layers of wallpaper.

Step 4: Remove the wallpaper excess and square wallpaper blocks you just cut out and put them aside. Use the tip of the utility knife to pick up the piece of square wallpaper that originally had the hole and peel it off the wall.

Step 5: Apply adhesive on the back of the new wallpaper and stick it to the empty area on the wall to make sure the pattern is still aligned.
