Development of powder coatings for aluminum building materials The trend of powder coatings is completely solvent-free, and can be converted into coating films. Since the powder coatings were introduced in the early 1970s, their use in aluminum building materials has grown rapidly. At present, the application of powder coatings in aluminum building materials has expanded from Europe to the Americas, Australia, the Far East, the Middle East and Africa. In the coating of aluminum building materials, representative types of powder coatings include epoxy resins, polyester resins, acrylic resins, and silicone resin powder coatings. As an application, such as aluminum frames, doors and windows, balconies, corridors, partitions and other high-corrosion aluminum building materials, most of the polyester, acrylic powder coating. In addition, since the epoxy resin powder coating has excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance, it is slightly inferior in weatherability, so it is generally used indoors or as a primer. More recently, a thermosetting fluororesin powder coating that can be applied using a general powder coating line has been developed. The thermosetting fluororesin powder coating has better weather resistance, gloss retention and durability than epoxy powder coating, polyester resin powder coating, and acrylic resin powder coating, and can even be comparable to solvent-based fluororesin coating.
