Proximity switch usage precautions and how to select

The proximity switch is a position switch that can operate without mechanical contact with the moving part. When the object approaches the sensing surface of the switch to the action distance, the switch can be actuated without mechanical contact and exerting any pressure, thereby driving the DC electric apparatus. Or provide control instructions to a plc device. Proximity switch is a kind of switch type sensor (namely non-contact switch). It has both the characteristics of limit switch and micro switch, and it has the sensing performance, reliable operation, stable performance, fast frequency response, long service life, and anti-interference. Strong ability, and with waterproof, shockproof, corrosion-resistant and other characteristics.

Precautions

Eddy current proximity switches and capacitive proximity switches are commonly used in general industrial production sites. Because these two kinds of proximity switches require less environmental conditions.

When the object to be measured is a conductive object or an object that can be fixed on a metal object, an eddy current proximity switch is generally selected because of its high response frequency, good resistance to environmental interference, wide application range, and low price.

If the measured object is non-metal (or metal), liquid level, powder height, plastic, tobacco and so on. Capacitive proximity switches should be used. This switch has a low response frequency but good stability. The environmental factors should be considered when installing.

If the object to be measured is a magnetically permeable material or a magnetic steel is buried in the object to be measured in order to distinguish it from an object that moves with it, the Hall proximity switch should be selected, which has the lowest price.

In the case of better environmental conditions and no dust pollution, photoelectric proximity switches can be used. When the photoelectric proximity switch works, it has almost no effect on the measured object. Therefore, it is widely used in tobacco machinery in demanding fax machines.

In anti-theft systems, automatic doors typically use pyroelectric proximity switches, ultrasonic proximity switches, and microwave proximity switches. Sometimes, in order to improve the reliability of recognition, the above-mentioned types of proximity switches are often used in combination.

No matter which kind of proximity switch is chosen, attention should be paid to the requirements for various indicators such as working voltage, load current, response frequency, and detection distance.

Proximity switch selection

For different material samples and different detection distances, different types of proximity switches should be selected so that they have a high performance-to-price ratio in the system. Therefore, the following principles should be followed in the selection:

1.1. When the detector is metallic, a high-frequency oscillatory proximity switch should be used. This type of proximity switch is most sensitive to iron-nickel and A3 steels.

For aluminum, brass and stainless steel samples, the detection sensitivity is low.

1.2. When the detector is non-metallic, such as wood, paper, plastic, glass, and water, a capacitive proximity switch should be used.

1.3. Metals and non-metals For long distance detection and control, photoelectric proximity switches or ultrasonic proximity switches should be used.

1.4. When the detection body is metal, if the detection sensitivity is not high, an inexpensive magnetic proximity switch or Hall proximity switch can be selected.
