Which material is safer for stainless steel and copper faucets?

Recently, the news that most of the faucets exceeded the standard was spread on the Internet, and Baidu related searches reached more than two million. So, is the faucet as dangerous as the netizens rumored? On Saturday, the CCTV program truth investigation team dismissed doubts: although the faucet contains lead, most products are safe.

Most taps are qualified for stainless steel.

CCTV truth investigation team reporters selected 14 brands of faucets from the shopping mall and building materials market, and sent them to the National Hardware Plumbing Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center.

According to the standard, the faucet test needs to be washed, immersed for 19 days, simulate the water sample of domestic water for different time periods, and conduct chemical analysis on the amount of lead precipitation. After testing, the 14 brands of faucets that were sent for inspection all contained lead, and the precipitation of lead in stainless steel faucets was indeed lower than that of copper faucets. Of the 14 brands, only two of the faucets purchased from the building materials market exceeded the standard and were unqualified.

Xie Xin, secretary-general of the Sanitary Committee of the National Federation of Industry and Commerce Furniture and Decoration Chamber of Commerce explained: "The copper faucets sold in the whole market now contain lead in principle. Because the general copper mine itself is accompanied by lead. Stainless steel faucets are also processed during processing. There will be lead, but the content is extremely low." Therefore, although the faucet contains lead, it can be used with confidence.

So is there a lead faucet that is harmful? Sun Chengwen, deputy director of the Department of Poisoning and Rehabilitation of the 307 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, told the reporter: "As long as it is not a long-term exposure to inferior faucets with high lead content, the danger is not great."

Heavy metal content such as arsenic, copper and mercury will also have "national standard"

In fact, stainless steel faucets, containing heavy metals such as manganese, chromium, nickel, may also exceed the standard. However, CCTV survey results show that the precipitation of heavy metals in 13 faucets has reached the requirements of relevant US standards. This result gave netizens a sigh of relief.

The reporter learned from the relevant staff of the Jiangsu Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau that the country has already established a new national standard for the faucet, which regulates the precipitation of 17 heavy metal elements such as manganese, nickel, arsenic, copper and mercury. It will be implemented nationwide next year. ”
