STMicroelectronics Launches New Power IC Product

On March 10, 2016, STMicroelectronics introduced three power supply ICs that support Google's proposed "48V rack" power architecture. The 48V rack is a low-voltage power architecture that directly converts the +48V input power to the FPGA and ASIC without intermediate bus voltage. Specifically, step-down DC-DC converters are mainly used in isolation. Compared with the existing method using the intermediate bus voltage, this method can improve the power conversion efficiency. The three products on the market are the drive IC for the secondary side synchronous rectifier "STRG02", the driver IC for the full bridge circuit "STRG04", and the digital power supply control IC "STRG06" equipped with the PMBus. Using these three ICs in combination, a step-down DC-DC converter with an output power of 50 to 300 W can be constructed. The input voltage supports +36 to 72V, and the output voltage can be set within the range of +0.5 to 12V. The conversion efficiency is more than 97% when a DC-DC converter with an output power of +12V/500W is constructed. In addition to Intel's power standards "VR12.5" and "VR13", it also meets the power standard for DDR3/4 memory.

"STRG06" uses the feedback loop control method "RVCOT" independently developed by STMicroelectronics. This is a digitally controlled resonance. Supports 6-phase (unit) drive. The equipped PMBus meets the Rev1.2 standard. In addition to the primary and secondary side monitoring of various parameters (telemetry), it can also be used for parameter settings such as output voltage. The package uses a 68-pin VFQFPN with a mounting area of ​​8mm x 8mm.

STRG02 supports n-channel power MOSFET driver. Its drive capability is 4A for both sinking current and pulling current. The maximum switching frequency is 1MHz. It supports zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero current switching (ZCS). The package has a mounting area of ​​3mm. ×3mm 12-terminal DFN. STRG04 is +60V withstanding voltage, used for n-channel power MOSFET driver, drive capability, both sink current and pull current are 2A, the maximum switching frequency is 1MHz.
