Chile announces completion of its first geothermal power plant in 2013

The Chilean Geothermal Energy Association (Achegeo) announced on August 25, 2010 that it will build its first geothermal power plant in Apacheta pampa in the northern part of Calama in 2013 and another project is underway, located in Okani. San Gregorio geothermal power plant in Tolhuaca, Araucania region.

It is estimated that by 2018, geothermal energy will contribute 800MW of electricity to the Central Interconnect System (SIC) through Laguna del Maule and San Gregorio geothermal power facilities. At the same time, in the Northern Connected System (SING), it is expected that the Apacheta pampa, Surire, and Puchuldiza geothermal power plants will contribute 700MW of electricity.
