Tesla builds the world's largest lithium battery energy storage system

Can support 30,000 households

Earlier, Tesla CEO Musk had publicly stated that Tesla will cooperate with the French renewable energy company Neoen to construct the world's largest lithium battery energy storage system in the Australian outback. At the end of September, Musk stated that he would complete the work within 100 days of signing the grid connection agreement. Otherwise, the lithium battery energy storage system would be given to Australia without compensation.

South Australian Governor Jay Weatherill announced last week that Tesla had completed the installation of a lithium battery energy storage system in a place called Jamestown, 120 miles north of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. Audrey Zibelman, CEO of the Australian Energy Market Operator, who is responsible for the Australian grid project, said that the new lithium battery energy storage system will be ready by December 1, 2017. As the arrival of Australia in summer, the use of air conditioners will increase significantly. This energy storage system can provide great help.

It is reported that the wind power plant owned by Neoen is located near Jamestown, and the electricity delivered by the wind power plant will be stored in the system. During the peak period of power usage, it helps the grid to supply electricity. It is expected that the system can store up to 129MWh and supply power to 30,000 households. Audrey Zibelman said that the current energy storage system has been completed and is undergoing final tests and preparations. It is expected that it will be officially opened this Friday. He said: "This will be an important step for sustainable development in Australia."
