LED energy-saving lamps safety standards require the latest standards

There are a large number of energy-saving lamps on the market today, and the technology is more advanced and more environmentally friendly. Data shows that LED energy-saving lamps save 80% more than incandescent lamps and 50% less than fluorescent energy-saving lamps. LED lights have the advantages of energy saving and environmental protection. The development of the lighting industry has become a major trend. The obvious advantages of LED energy-saving lamps can be reflected in the following aspects:

1, low-voltage power supply, low power consumption: In general, LED energy-saving lamps operating voltage is 2 to 3.6V, operating current is 0.02 to 0.03A. This means that: it consumes no more than 0.1W;

2, small size: LED energy-saving lamps is basically a very small chip is encapsulated in epoxy resin;

3, long life: at the appropriate current and voltage, its service life of up to 100,000 hours, almost no maintenance. In addition, LED energy-saving lamps have a complete epoxy resin package, it is stronger than the light bulbs and fluorescent tubes, there is no loose part of the lamp body, not easy to damage;

4, high brightness, low calorie: general lighting incandescent and tungsten halogen lamps, although cheap, but the light efficiency is low, due to the thermal effects of the lamp and consume power; LED lamps as lighting lamps, not only high light efficiency, and cold The light source generates almost no heat power;

5, environmental protection: LED lamps are made of non-toxic materials, unlike fluorescent lamps containing mercury can cause pollution, but also can be recycled;

6, LED energy-saving lamps also have flicker-free, strong applicability, high stability, short response time and other characteristics;

Because the technology and product attributes used by LEDs have been very different from those of traditional lamps, the current general safety standards for lamps and lanterns obviously do not apply.

Billion Bo Technology Certification Center (EBO) authored this article to explain the current requirements of LED lighting safety testing (in the case of UL standards).

(I) Safety specifications of LED lamps:

With the improvement of technology, the use of LED lamps has been applied to indicator lamps, signal lamps, etc. in the past few decades, and has gradually been used in cell phone backlights, interior lighting, car lights, LCD TVs, laptop backlights, and other auxiliary lighting. And in the past two years, it has begun to become the main lighting system, covering the areas of application, outdoor, commercial, and home, and the products are:

Scope (Lighting) Products Architectural Garden Lighting, Searchlights, Ladder Lamps, Balcony Lamps, etc. Commercial Lighting, Display Cabinet Lighting, Home Living Ceiling Lamps, Wall Lamps, Kitchen Cabinet Lamps, Stand Lamps, Desk Lamps, etc. The improvement of technology and the broadening of the application level are dedicated to the protection of consumer safety. UL has established UL8750, a safety standard for LED modules and lighting fixtures, to regulate LED lighting products. It was officially released in 2009. This standard is an industry-required safety standard for the sale of LED products to North America. It is applicable to all types of products with LED as the main light source, including lamps, light bulbs, and drivers. In addition to the safety regulations, LED light source lighting products in the future require Verify the special properties of the LED light source and module.

(B) LED lamps in the UL standard classification:

For the three basic product categories such as LED lamps, LED bulbs, and LED power supplies, the corresponding safety standards and related precautions are not the same when expanding to finished products or components. The details are as follows:

1, LED lamps:

Application Product Safety Standard Precautions Indicator Light UL48

Handle lights, kitchen lights, table lamps, stand lights, wall lights, etc. (all with power cord plugs) UL153 covers portable luminaires, through the power cord plug connection to the nominal 120V, 15 or 20A branch circuit on Christmas Light string UL588

Emergency light, exit light UL924

Display cabinet, mirror light UL962

Stage lights UL1573

Step lights, down lights, ceiling lights, chandeliers, wall lights, street lights, column lights, etc. (all without power cord plugs) UL1598 covers fixed luminaires used in non-hazardous areas and installed on branch circuits below 600V.
