Respirator masks, gas masks, and air respirator are types of respiratory protection products. However, the applicable situations of the three are very different. Xiao Bian arranges related materials, mainly from three aspects: the degree of protection, the use of toxic substances, and the use of occasions. We introduce and explain the use conditions of gas masks, gas masks, and air respirator:
First, the protection level
Respirator masks are the three types with the lowest level of protection. There are now so-called respirator masks on the market. They are mainly used to prevent trace organic gases, acid gases and toxic metal radioactive particles. So what is organic gas? Organic gases generally refer to paints containing benzene, gasoline, acetone, carbon disulfide, and ether chemical substances; and acid gases such as sulfur dioxide, chlorine, hydrogen fluoride, and other toxic gases;
The gas mask has a medium level of protection and can be used in conjunction with a targeted selection of toxic cartridges. At present, gas masks effectively protect against toxic gases such as organic gases, acid gases, ammonia, formaldehyde, mercury vapor, etc. (Extended reading: Gas Masks What are the types?)
Air respirator has the highest safety factor because its anti-virus principle is different from gas masks and gas masks. It is not a filter-type anti-virus. It directly isolates the respiratory system from the toxic environment of the outside world.
Second, the concentration of toxic substances
Respirator masks are suitable for environments where the concentration of harmful substances does not exceed 10 times the occupational exposure limit. If the toxic particulates in the environment are highly-substance, carcinogenic, or radioactive, then the highest level of respirator with filter efficiency is required, such as N100 respirator (recommended product) : 3M8233 Respirator Mask);
If you know the types of toxic substances in the environment, and the concentration of harmful substances is less than 2%, and the oxygen concentration is greater than 18%, you can use gas masks;
When the toxic substances in the environment are unknown, and the oxygen concentration is less than 18%, the use of air respirator is required.
Third, anti-virus masks, gas masks, air respirator use occasions
Respirators are generally used in printing plants, chemical laboratories, paper mills, and wineries. It is recommended that gas masks be used for toxic odors.
Gas masks are equipped with different filter cartridges, and the use of protective toxic substances is more comprehensive, because the gas mask body can be used repeatedly and only requires more filter cartridges. Therefore, the overall cost is low, and it is generally used in pesticide spraying, painting, chemical engineering, and hazardous chemicals. Transportation equipment is used;
Air respirator is widely used in firefighting units and petroleum smelting industries, and is used when working in sewers, drains, cellars, or downhole operations.
Summary: The common feature of the respirator, gas mask, and air respirator is that they are all capable of preventing toxic substances to a certain extent. However, it is not a panacea. If you find that you are not breathing properly or the breathing apparatus alarms, you need to go to the safe area immediately. Avoid the occurrence of safety accidents such as poisoning and suffocation.
